引　言 Introduction
    現時代的台灣人, 幾乎沒有人對台語辭彙個個都能說得很準確。  這是因為所有的人都沒有機會在學校裡學華語(國語)那樣,步步學習到整套的台語。  我們說學過了台語, 其實都是在競選活動中聽到的, 而依靠好的記憶力去模仿台上的人的口音, 就自認為學到了台語。
    At the present time, almost all Taiwanese people are unable to speak every Taiwanese word accurately.   This is because nobody has ever learned the whole set of Taiwanese step by step aw we learned Chinese Mandarin in the school.     We say we can speak Taiwanese, but those words are only imitation of those which we heard in the campain occations and remenbered in mind the pronunciation of those persons on the stage.    This is what we say we learned Taiwanese.
    如何學好台灣話?  就像我們立志要學好華語或英語的時候一樣, 我們必須常常查字典, 因為字典裡才有正確的語辭和發音。
  How to learn Taiwanese well?    It is just like when we like to study Mandarin or English well, we should search words in the dictionary.    It is because those accurate vocabularies and pronunciation exist only in the dictionary.                                                  →   ● 如何由現代拼字讀出正確聲調?
　　但是當我們對話語的發音沒有自信的時候, 要怎麼樣去查到那個話語呢? 用漢字去查,是一個辦法; 可是台語的漢字,大有問題, 而且漢字查辭彙本身是個麻煩事。如果能用大致接近的拼音去查到那個辭彙,不知多好!   那麼你得會用一套「大致接近」的台語拼音法, 而去查一本用這種拼音為依據可以查出正確拼字的字典。
  But how can we search a vocabulary when we are not confident on the pronunciatioin, that is the spelling, of a word?   To use the Han Character is a method; but Han Character for Taiwanese word is a problem, and what is more, the search with Han Character is a trouble by itsself.    How nice it will be if we can search the word with obscure pronunciation!    Well, you need a set of obscure spelling, and need a dictionary which allow you to find the accurate spelling with such an obscure spelling.

      　Obscure Spelling for  Approximate Pronunciation
    (1)要標出大致接近口音的彙音拼字, 不應該有聲調差異。母音該用所謂的「主韻拼字」。這是"基調音"的拼字。 基調音拼字用來代替高調音,迴旋音,上突音,和下突音的拼字。
　To make an approximate spelling, there should be no differenciation on tones.   This means the vowels should be "atonal".     An atonal vowel is the spelling of the fundamental tone (basic tone).    This spelling substitutes spellings for raised tone, bend tone, pushed up tone, and pushed down tone.

　(2)前鼻母音, 如 va, vai等,也包括在沒有鼻音的主韻拼字中。
　Pre-nasal vowell such as va, vai etc. is included into the atonal spellling without nasal symbol.
　(3)依照現代文慣例,音標字[o]不用,而只用 o 字。
　As in usual MLT sentence, the phonetic letter [o] is not used, and only the ordinary o is used.
　(4) 子音不分氣音鼻音。  所以, 全部子音字包括: B; C(←c,ch,cv,chv); G (← g,gv); H (← h, hv); J; K (← k,kh,kv,khv); L; M; N; P (← p,ph,pv,phv); S (←s,sv);   T (←t,th,tv,thv); Z (←z,zh,zv,zhv)。 鼻子音字"v"僅僅在該音節中沒有其他子音字先行時,才寫出。這就是"綜合子音字"
　A consonant includes unvoiced and nasal.    Thus, all comsonants include:  B;  C (← c,ch,cv,chv);  G (← g,gv);  H (← h,hv);   J;   K (← k,kh,kv,khv);  L;   M;  N;   P (←  p,ph,pv,phv);  S (←  s,sv);   T ←  (t,th,tv,thv);  Z (←  z,zh,zv,zhv).    The nasal consonant "V" is only written when no other consonant precedes in that syllable.    Such is called the composite consonant.

"彙音"就是聚集了同類發音的意思； 如, 彙音拼字"Cia"是聚集了cia,chia, cvia,和chvia等四個同類發音為一個的拼字。 彙音拼字"CiaK"則更多, 因為"K"後有太多的可能性。

[要領] 在 辭典索引上, 按一下想要查的辭彙的首音節, 則跳往該音節的方框; 請查看第二音節的音首字, 其後面就有幾個台語辭彙, 看出該當意思的漢字辭, 其前面是正確的現代拼字。
　現代拼字, 指示著該語辭的標準發音; 即:
 a.若音節是基調音拼字的就以平常心發出平坦的聲調。如: koanhe(關係), svoalai(山內)等。
 b.看到有 y,w,f 的音節, 要提高音階。如: bylefng(米奶), soefsvaf(洗衫), 等。
 c.看到 兩個重疊的母音字母, 就是彎曲的聲調。如: zoaa(蛇), kaau(猴), iuu(油),等。
 d.看到有 x, 就要壓下。如: toaxhaxn(大漢), hoxnghiexn(奉獻),等。
 e.看到有 r,ie,uo,ae,ao 的音節, 就要推出。如 goar(我), sie(死), chiuo(手), koae(拐), siao(瘋), 等。
 f.停一下的促音, 有高促音和低促音。高促音是~h,~k,~p,~t,而低促音是~q,~g,~b,~d。
　[關於隔音符(')] 在辭典裡, 凡是為初學者的需要, 在現代拼字中依照需要, 必加進了"隔音符"。這些中有不少辭彙, 在一般的現代文中是常省略那個隔音符的; 也就是說, 凡是省略成習慣而大家都看得懂的 , 就可以在寫文章時省略。 如: jitoong-kaoiok (兒童教育), ciawar (鳥仔), cidee(一個)等,不一定要寫成 jitoong-kao'iok, ciaw'ar, cid'ee等。
　[關於音標字[o]] 在辭典裡的現代拼字, 為顧及到南部讀者, 特別用到音標字[o]。  這在通常的現代文中是不做這個分辯的。 即, 在現代文中, 把 o 也寫成 o。 如:  歲壽 hoeasiu =hoeasiu, 和平 hopeeng = hopeeng, 可惜 khofsioq = khofsioq, 等。
　[簡体拼字] 通常叫著簡体拼字(simplified spelling)的, 就是彙音拼字(obscure spelling)。 把正確的現代拼字簡化, 就成為簡體拼字; 即,把現代拼字的同類子音拼法彙集成一, 又把不同聲調的母音拼法彙集而為基調音拼法, 就成為彙音拼字, 而它就跟從開始就用簡化為旨來拼出來的簡體拼字, 是相同的。
如何利用本辭典?

查辭彙
  當你用台語寫文章的時候,忽然想要查這個辭典,是因為你想不起那句話的正確漢字,或者對你所寫的現代拼字沒有十分的自信的時候。
   這時請在 索引頁上找到那句話的首音的簡体拼字(彙音拼字)按一下。 你馬上會到有這一類首音的一群辭彙。移到第二音節的子音的部份,而一個一個查看那裡的漢字辭,你就不難找到心中所要的語辭。 那裡的漢字辭或現代拼字辭就是你所要查的了。    查到了,就不要忘記在那上方找一句(●回 索引頁),而按一下。就可以再查另一個辭彙。

記憶一群台語辭彙
    有空的時候,請在 索引頁上,隨便 按一下一個首音,來找到那類首音的一群辭彙。 不妨依靠著現代拼字,嘴裡念著每一個辭彙的發音,看漢字辭來了解意思, 這樣反覆,你不久就會學到很多很多的台灣話,而你的口音又是最標準的了!
